San Jose Island[1] or San José Island (also known as Saint Joseph Island) is a barrier island on the Gulf Coast of Texas in the United States. 21 miles (34 km) long and 5 miles (8.0 km) wide. The island is oriented generally northeast-southwest, with the Gulf of Mexico on the east and south, Aransas Bay on the west, and Mesquite Bay on the north.

San José Island is a privately-owned island just a short boat ride from Port Aransas, Texas. Historically a ranch, today the island is managed principally for wildlife. On the beaches of St. Jo, as it is affectionally called, there is a wealth of birding, shelling, fishing, and beach combing.
